Roberto Cannizzo has over 45 years of experience and has attend as lead attorney in various strategic transactions in Mexico. These include several joint ventures, acquisitions, development, and sale of multiple mega real estate projects, joint ventures with insurance companies, sale and negotiation of various transportation and construction contracts for oil and gas pipelines, as well as financial structuring projects. Additionally, he has acted as lead advisor for many foreign banks, real estate funds, hotel companies, technology firms, and major fashion brands, to name a few. He has also served as advisor for several Mexican companies, some of which are listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange.

Experience

As a pioneer attorney in this field, he worked in the structuring and acquisitions of some of the most important mega developments in Mexico such as Playacar, Marina Vallarta, Marina Ixtapa, Bosque Real, Puerto Cancun, etc. He has also advised Fonatur (Mexican government organization) and Amdetur (organization that includes the major developers in Mexico in the tourism sector) in various aspects relating to real estate and hospitality matters, such as:

  • The acquisition, structuring of Marina Vallarta, Marina Ixtapa, Playacar (the largest hotel, golf, marina, residential and commercial projects in Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa and Playa del Carmen).
  • The acquisition of Bosque Real (the largest luxury housing and golf course development within the Mexico City area).
  • The sale of Malecon Americas (the largest shopping center in Cancun and one of the largest shopping, hotel and housing projects built in the latest years in Cancun).
  • The acquisition of Puerto Cancun (the largest urban-tourist development in Cancun).
  • Cinemex expansion which comprised more than 40 movie theater complexes in Mexico.
  • The acquisition, structuring and development of the mega developments known as Marina Mazatlan, Marina San Carlos, Bajamar, Careyes, La Vista in Puebla, Tapatio in Guadalajara.
  • The acquisition and sales of more than 60 hotels in the last years, including the Four Seasons of Mexico City, JW Marriott hotels Mexico City, Princess Acapulco, Fairmont Acapulco, Coral Beach Cancun, Whyndham Cozumel, Barcelo Hotels, Hilton Los Cabos, Alpitour and H10 properties.
  • Representing financial institutions such as Credit Suisse, BNP Paribas in their hospitality investments in Mexico.
  • Working with hotel operating companies and hotel owners in all activities relating to licensing, franchising, operating, management, M&A, including transactions involving Marriott, Four Seasons, Morgans, Fairmont, Wyndham, Barceló, AMR, Alpitour, H10, Auberge etc.
