Two consortiums will be in charge of the construction of section 5 of the Tren Maya
On September 23rd and 24th, the first Digital Tourist “Tianguis” (Tianguis Turístico Digital) organized by the Ministry of Tourism took place, which was supposed to be held last March, but due to the health emergency it was decided to postpone it until September in a digital format.
The “Tianguis” served as a platform for hotels, airlines, tourism representatives from the 32 states of the Mexican Republic, among many others, to show their products and services to different travel agencies, travel associations, event and congress and convention organizers.
This edition of the “Tianguis” was the first one to be held completely online, which sought to break the barriers of distance and that national and international exhibitors could publicize their products and services. Likewise, this forum served as a new way of spreading and knowing the diversity of destinations and tourist products that Mexico has to offer to the world.
According to the preliminary data provided by Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism of the Federal Government, more than 200 exhibitors participated in the forum, with transactions exceeding 100 million dollars, an amount that, in the words of the Secretary himself, must be confirmed with the final figures.
The “Tianguis” also served as a forum to promote one of the current government’s flagship projects, the Tren Maya. According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Tren Maya stand, along with those of City Express, Grupo Vidanta, Interjet and the governments of the states of Yucatan and Guerrero were the most visited.
Moreover, the Chief Legal Officer of the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fondo Nacional del Fomento al Turismo) (FONATUR), Alejandro Varela Arellano, reported that next week they will announce the bases for the bidding of section 5 of the Tren Maya, which has an extension of 121 km, and runs through much of the state of Quintana Roo, from Cancun to Tulum.
It is important to mention that at the beginning of this month the bidding process was declared void, since the economic proposal of the only participant exceeded the budget considered for this section of the railway line.
He mentioned that within the actions that make up this work, there are also various adaptations to the highway that runs from Cancun to Tulum, such as its expansion from 4 to 6 lanes and the construction of the double railroad track in the canopy.
Finally, the Chief Legal Officer of FONATUR announced that it is contemplated that two consortiums will carry out the construction of the section whose bidding terms will be announced next week. Likewise, he informed the attendees of the “Tianguis” that it will be until next year when the bases for the bidding of sections 6 and 7 will be announced, which are considered the most complicated due to the areas they cross, which would put an end to the bidding processes related to this work.
The Tren Maya runs through the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo, with an approximate length of 1,500 km, and along with it, it is planned to reactivate the economic activity of the region, raise the quality of life of the inhabitants of the area, promote environmental care and detonate sustainable development.
