Minimum Wage Increase 2026
On Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025, the Officer in charge or the Ministry of Labor, Marath Bolaños, announced that the increase to the minimum wage for 2026 will be of 13%. As of January 1st, 2026, the general minimum wage will be $315.00 MXN per day and $440.87 MXN per day for the Northern Border Free Zone (“ZLFN”).
According to the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum, the minimum wage on a monthly basis will amount to $9,582.47 MXN, with a commitment to continue increasing it through 2030.
The 13% increase also applies to professional minimum wages, which cover a total of 61 professions, trades, and types of work.
With this increase, the Mexican government aims to advance toward the goal that, by 2030, every worker will have access to an income equivalent to 2.5 times the value of the basic consumption basket. The Officer in charge of the Ministry of Labor noted that, in the northern border region, wages have already reached a level sufficient to cover 2.8 basic consumption baskets.
Recommended Immediate Actions
- Update salary scales in accordance with the new minimum wage.
- Implement an immediate nominal increase for those employees currently earning the minimum wage.
- Evaluate the impact on salary structures and any potential budgetary implications.
The minimum wage increase for 2026 has immediate legal effects for all employers as of January 1, 2026. Companies must make the necessary operational, administrative, and budgetary adjustments to ensure compliance with labor regulations and to avoid contingencies arising from labor inspections, individual claims, or collective disputes.
